'FEMALE GUARDIAN' 1988

Made at Chisholm College Caulfield in bronze.  The figure of a woman transforms into animal and plant forms.  She holds the staff of a young tree fashioned as a spiral which depicts the power of nature to chastise us if we do not live in accordance with nature. She is the wise nature spirit.  Again these works are inspired by African and Indian art forms.   Stimson attempts to imbue the artwork with an interior spiritual presence.  This was also the intention behind early Greek sculpture, Greek religious icons and much African tribal art where sculptures of guardians were not seen as “representing” the Gods but were “of “ or imbued with the essence of the Gods or Guardians.
