“FLYING TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH 1989”

Painted wax on canvas.

This is one of a series of artworks some in bronze others in painted wax.  Here Stimson is describing the moment of eternal love that happens at the time of orgasm.  It may be just a fleeting moment but it is the moment when two minds connect and commit to one another and to the universe.  It is a time when we surrender to the deeper forces alive in the cosmos which are far beyond our individual and rational selves.  It is the “out of this world” time when there is a possibility for a new soul to be conceived.

In all these four art-works, the portraits of Nichola Williamson and Guy Nelson are used as the archetypes as they are in very many of Stimson’s work as she had drawn Nichola from school, their school days together and Guy from college days.
