CHARCOAL On PAPER
First tentively sketched in 1984 on the flight over from England to Australia “The Shapes” drawings above were first shown in 1992 at the Fringe Gallery Brunswick St. Melbourne, Australia in 1992. Subsequently the artist has worked on and exhibited many such artworks. With these artworks Stimson attempts to imagine essential existences. Imagined large the shapes are the artist’s attempt to convey the idea how the tiniest atomic forces (Leibnitz’s-Monads) might experience their existence or connection to God and how essential forces gradually develop into unique identities with personality. The artist explores the idea that a unique, emotional evolutionary journey may be an integrated part of the material evolutionary journey towards rational thought.
