"YOUNG MAN IN THE MOONLIGHT"

Bas-relief made in fibre-glass resin with oil paint. A young man is bathed in moonlight.   The moon tells of a young man’s sensitive nature.  The moon is also reflected in his eye.  It celebrates and encourages gentleness and sweetness as the right of young men, not the preserve simply of the female sex.  The pullover that the young man wears was a favourite hand knitted garment worn by a friend. By painting it here Stimson draws attention to the pleasure and joy to be had in the simple and the everyday homespun things of colour and warmth.
